Overview


Purpose of the Project

Support users in managing their time and completing tasks more effectively by helping them build healthy habits, stay organized, and maintain focus. Also, while providing mental health articles to promote overall well-being.

The Problem

People often struggle to manage time and complete tasks due to stress and distractions. They need help building healthy habits, staying organized, and following through.

The Solution

Petal provides users with a space to organize their lives, set goals and reminders, and build lasting habits that help them stay on track across multiple areas of life.

Research


User Surveys

Collected qualitative data through user surveys, enabling data-backed prioritization of features and clear segmentation of user groups based on needs and behaviors.

User Interviews

Gather in-depth insights into users' daily routines, organizational tools, and pain points. Findings revealed behavioral patterns, unmet needs, and prior experiences with similar productivity apps.

User Persona

Developed a user persona to better understand and empathize with the target audience. This clarified user goals and pain points, helping to filter out non-essential features and align the product with real user needs.

Competitive Analysis

Completed a competitor analysis to understand user expectations and identify gaps in the market. This revealed common user habits, highlighted what users value most, and established key design standards needed to stay competitive.

Definition


Journey Map

Created a user journey map to visualize the end-to-end experience, which allowed me to identify key pain points and frustrations. This approach helped me better understand the process from the user's perspective and uncover opportunities for improvement.

Empathy Map

Created an empathy map to gain deeper insight into users’ emotions, behaviors, and mindset. This process uncovered key pain points and unspoken needs, which directly informed meaningful and user-centered design decisions.

Competitive Analysis Findings

Conducted to understand user expectations, identify industry standards and best practices, and uncover gaps and opportunities. Insights from this process informed the creation of a concise yet effective onboarding experience tailored to the user, and helped determine which features should be considered essential for the product.

Affinity Diagram

Created to organize qualitative data and uncover meaningful insights, trends, and patterns. This method helped reveal common user frustrations, behaviors, needs, wants, and motivations, providing a clearer understanding of the overall user experience.

Ideation


User Flow

Created to visualize and strategically plan how users would navigate through the product. This ensured a smooth, intuitive experience by structuring each step with clarity and purpose.

Storyboard

Developed to visualize the user’s journey and illustrate key interactions with the product. This helped organize and better understand the user experience, while also informing the design of a curated feed focused on motivation and habit-building tools.

Prototyping


Lo-Fi Wireframes

Designed to focus on the overall structure and validate core concepts early in the design process. This helped establish a clear hierarchy, effective layout, and functional flow before moving into higher-fidelity design stages.

Hi-Fi Prototype

Built to showcase functionality and interactivity, helping stakeholders visualize the final product. It provided a realistic, detailed representation of the app, including animations and user interactions.

Testing


Usability Testing

Conducted to gain insights into user behavior, identify areas of confusion, and gather direct feedback. This process uncovered usability issues, revealed how real users interacted with the product, and helped validate key design decisions.

Next Steps


  • Update the “Add New Goal” feature to prevent it from being obscured by the keyboard.

  • Improve the size and usability of quiz checkboxes for better accessibility.

  • Enhance the visibility of the “Journal Updated” overlay by adjusting its transparency

  • Implement vertical scrolling on the homepage to improve access to reminders

  • Expand customization options for reminders, goals, and priority settings

  • Develop and integrated a rewards system to enhance user engagement
